2016 Big hitting performance carries Alphians AH1 past Neptunus 13-8
Saturday was a great day for Matthew GORDON, as he hit two home runs to carry Alphians AH1 to a 13-8 victory over Neptunus at Alphen in five innings.
GORDON racked up seven RBIs on three hits for Alphians AH1. He singled in the first inning and homered in the second and third innings.
Both squads had things going at the plate, tallying 21 runs and 19 hits, including six extra base hits. Relief pitchers got their fill of innings during the game, with the opposing managers using seven pitchers in total.
Alphians AH1 never trailed after scoring one run in the first on an RBI single by GORDON.
Alphians AH1 piled on seven more runs in the bottom of the second. The inning looked promising, as Robin BAKKER doubled, plating Mike XUE to kick things off.
Two runs in the top of the third helped Neptunus close its deficit to 8-2. An RBI double by D’Angelo Henriquez and an RBI double by Stan Venrooy fueled Neptunus’ comeback. XUE ended the inning by getting Faas Sluijter to ground out.
Alphians AH1 quickly matched Neptunus’ strong inning with a three-run inning of its own in the third. Alphians AH1 scored on a three-run home run by GORDON.
Four runs in the top of the fourth helped Neptunus close its deficit to 11-6. A three-run double by Henriquez and an error gave Neptunus life. Darnell Collins to end the Neptunus threat.
Alphians AH1 tacked on another two runs in the fourth. A ground out scored Robin BAKKER to get Alphians AH1 on the board in the inning.
After pushing across two runs in the top of the fifth, Neptunus faced just a 13-8 deficit. An RBI single by Venrooy and an RBI single by Sem Staub triggered Neptunus’ comeback. Alphians AH1’s Robin BAKKER induced a Sluijter ground out to close things out.
